2015 Pasture Raised Chicken Ready
This year’s chicken is ready for sale. We’re sticking with our formula: 100% certified organic feed, fresh water, and daily pasture moves. Invariably there comes a point each season (usually while we are doing our chicken chores in a pouring rainstorm) at which we question why we bother. But then there’s the payoff when we grill a bunch of thighs and of course we do it again the next year.
AJ helped me bring his first round of broiler chickens to the butcher this week, with another batch finishing up next week. The daily feeding, care, and general tending are all fully within his capabilities. Moving the field pens is still a little too much to ask, so Rachel or I help with the moves. It is a good project for him to take responsibility for the chickens, and he’s shown himself to be dependable.
We’ve added whole chicken and individual cuts to our web store. A few cuts are in short supply so if they sell out this week, we’ll be able to replenish them with a bigger supply when the next batch comes back from the butcher in another week.
