At Wrong Direction Farm, we know we’re in this together with other farmers. Although the larger food industry looks for consolidation, we believe that everyone is better off when there are many thriving local farms. Here is a list of some outstanding pasture raised chicken farms that serve the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas.
Each of these farms is managed by people we know, and we’ve spent time with each of them discussing all sorts of topics related to pastured poultry and regenerative farming. They all will provide great pasture raised chicken for anyone living in New York City and the surrounding areas of New Jersey, Long Island, and Connecticut. Here’s our picks for the best pasture raised chicken farms serving our area:
1. Reber Rock Farm
Reber Rock comes in at the top of our list because they are the only one that, like us, is also Certified Organic. Nathan and company raise their chickens on pasture and process all the meat in their own on-farm butcher shop in Essex, NY. They offer delivery throughout the Northeast.
2. Q Farms
Linda from Q Farms is always an interesting person to talk to, as she approaches farming from a fresh perspective. Q Farms is located in Sharon, CT, and they raise their chickens on pasture. Their home delivery area includes New England, New York, and New Jersey.
3. Maple Wind Farm
This one is a little farther afield in Northern Vermont, but their home delivery area includes most of Northern NJ, all of NYC’s boroughs, and Long Island, as well as Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and southern Maine. I met Bruce Hennessy the owner years ago at a farming conference. He is a generous guy who willingly provides lots of help to other farmers. The farm raises pasture raised chickens and butchers on farm in a USDA inspected shop.
So these are three great options you might consider for pasture raised poultry if you live in New York City or the surrounding area. If you’d like to read more about pasture raised chicken, here are some other resources we’ve written:

We sometimes get inquiries for pasture raised chicken from folks outside of our delivery area (we deliver to NY, NJ, PA, DE, CT, RI, MA, VT, NH, and ME). We prepared a guide on how to find a pasture raised poultry farm in your area.
Naturally, we’re glad to sell our own pasture raised, Certified Organic poultry. If you’d like to place an order, we would gladly deliver some to you. We keep a full selection of cuts in stock and we’d love to put some great chicken and turkey on your table. Learn more about our delivery and environmentally friendly packaging.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment or call Farmer Dave. We love to hear from you, as the farm-to-customer connection is vital for us. I enjoy talking about anything related to pasture raised chickens specifically and organic and regenerative farming in general. And I love talking about (and eating) food.
